Abstract : The rate at which one currency is exchanged for another currency is termed as Exchange rate. There are two major types of exchange rates known as Fixed exchange rate and Fluctuating exchange rate. Gold plays a vital role in exchange rate. The exchange rate regime starts from Gold Standard and goes through various phases. Bretton Woods System plays a vital role in the exchange rate regime. This paper concentrates on the evolution of exchange mechanism and its classification until 2010.
